School Security Grants Available

Dear Early Care and Education Community,
We are pleased to notify you of the release of the 2017 School Security Competitive Grant Program. This third round of the competitive grant program is a component of Public Act 17-68 and is jointly administered by the State Department of Education (SDE), Department of Construction Services (DCS) and the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DESPP/DEMHS).
Under the law, ten percent of the funds available under this program shall be awarded to eligible Non-Public Schools, including eligible licensed child care centers or preschools that have received threats. (See Section N of the Application Package for Non-Public Schools and Eligible Licensed Childcare Centers and Preschools.)
This program is divided into two subprograms (all documents are posted on the website of the Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection at http://www.ct.gov/demhs/cwp/view.asp?a=1910&Q=595244&PM=1
1. Public Schools: Including Local and Regional Boards of Education, State Technical Schools, Regional Education Service centers, Charter Schools and Private Endowed High Schools or Academies associated with school districts; and
2. Non-Public Schools: Includes private schools throughout the State of Connecticut, as well as Eligible Licensed Daycare and Childcare Centers that have received threats.
These grants may reimburse a portion of the costs associated with making safety and security improvements to schools/facilities. Eligible projects that are completed on or after January 1, 2013 and ending on June 30, 2018 may be applied for under this program.
